Fire at Mi Refugio

Fire at Mi Refugio

This fire was quite a blow. These pictures show a fire in the computer room and laundry room and class rooms above. It is reported that no one is hurt. Kari is safe. May God heal this wound.

Update as of 3/19/2020: Neighbors, teachers and parents came to help put out the fire. The day after the fire they were there to help clean up the debris and brought coffee and food. Currently, due to the coronavirus, the schools and public transportation are all closed. This is giving Kari some time to sort out the mess and regroup. She hopes to rebuild the lost building and would accept donations to that cause as well as retired laptop computers.

I visited Mi Refugio about 10 years ago my prayers go out for Kari’s health and the school. ( I worked with World Child International.)
Kari you gave me a pillow case that still have hanging in my office when I came to visit. I think of you often.
    All my love and prayers

My prayers go out to Mrs. kari, all of the children, teachers, parents, and staff. The work that all of you do is amazing. As soon as I am able to recover myself economically, I will donate to this very wonderful cause. Where exactly is the exit to get to this school in San Pedro Sacatepequez? I have family that lives in the department of Sacatepequez and I would like to visit the school so that I can donate clothing, toys, and other things that I can.

Kari, I just watched a documentary on your work in Guatemala. I was wondering where you are most active for updates?! How are you doing? How are things going with the school since the fire? Your work has touched my heart and I wanted to thank you. You truly are an angel and an inspiration to me, seriously. I’m bookmarking this site and I’m going to talk to my husband about what we can do to contribute supporting your work and legacy. We are young and can’t do as much as I’d like to but something is better than nothing. I can also spread the word to family. I hope you’re doing well. -Josie, love from United States
