About

Mi Refugio Es Jesus is a non denominational, Christian ministry which shares the love of Jesus by providing education (pre-school through high school), food, clothing, medical and dental assistance to these children and their families.

About Kari Engen

Kari is an amazing American woman who first opened up the school “Mi Refugio Es Jesus” for the children who live in the Guatemala City dump in the 1980’s. Recently diagnosed with ALS or “Lou Gehrig’s disease,” Kari is facing mounting health and school related expenses.

Kari is determined to keep the school up and running but needs our help to do so.

About the School

Centro Educativo "Mi Refugio" has been accredited by the Guatemalan government, and all of the teachers are graduates from Guatemalan schools with teaching credentials. Kari Engen is the Executive Director of the ministry, living full time in San Pedro Sacatepequez.

Families contribute as they are able. They are asked to contribute 50 Quetzales a month, which amounts to about $7.00 US.

Location

The students come from the Guatemala City Dump, Zone 7 and the city of San Pedro. The school is located in San Pedro Sacatepéquez.

How You Can Help

Please help us keep Kari’s mission alive so she can continue to not only provide an education for the children who call the Guatemala city dump home but also provide them with daily nutrition and spiritual guidance. One hundred percent of all funds we raise will go directly to Kari.
